The Program in Medical Education (PME) at Harvard Medical School has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and creative Web Developer ? Full Stack Drupal, who will design, develop, and maintain the PME?s web properties as part of HMS?s greater web presence. This position, reporting directly to the Associate Director of PME Systems and Solutions, will function as an integrated and collaborative member of the HMS IT Web Team. The Web Developer ? Full Stack Drupal will partner with the PME?s Web Governance Committee and PME?s Digital Content Producer and the Office of Communication and External Relations (OCER) to establish the priorities by gathering and clarifying business requirements and develop technical scope and documentation; designing, writing, testing and maintaining Drupal modules and themes, and integrating Drupal with external APIs; conducting design and architecture reviews of new applications and major system enhancements; building automated content migrations from the existing websites to Drupal 10; and institute stakeholder quality-assurance workflows. The candidate will also project manage the migration of PME?s website to gather and communicate technical requirements and then, plan, organize and create tasks to turn requirements into deliverable and actionable items. They will also simultaneously manage different phases of the technical project plans for PME?s website for its migration to the HMS Flagship. The ideal candidate will bring not only expertise on user experience and interactive design to the PME offices to create compelling, successful digital experiences for current and prospective students, faculty and staff, but possess effective project management skills with the ability to develop and manage relationship with PME stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years? post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor?s degree preferred.
  • Development experience in web and internet technologies, preferably in a large organization or in an agency setting.
  • Experience building and maintaining sites in modern Drupal, including the development of custom modules and themes.
  • Strong knowledge of semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with front-end development tools such as Sass and Gulp.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Drupal best practices and to web-accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.0/2.1).
  • Motivation to remain current with existing and emerging web technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple assigned tasks with excellent time-management, organization, and planning skills.
  • Ability to function as part of a team and to switch between a big-picture mindset and detailed project work.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to build win-win relationships with partners.
  • Active participation in the Drupal community (discussion on issues, patches, contributed modules).
  • Experience working on higher-education websites.
  • Broad technical-delivery experience and knowledge of agile development practices and toolsets, such as Jira.
  • Basic knowledge of use and administration of LAMP stacks.

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred
