We are looking for a passionate Sustaining Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented engineers dedicated to improving open-source software solutions. Our Sustaining Engineering team plays a critical role in resolving software issues for our customers and enhancing the open-source community. As a Sustaining Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for leading a distributed team, ensuring they have the support, resources, and guidance to thrive in their roles. You'll work alongside experts from various time zones, ensuring that the team maintains a healthy work-life balance while delivering top-quality technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a distributed team of engineers.
Hire, mentor, and provide career development support to team members.
Track and measure team performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide training to enhance skills.
Oversee the timely delivery of bug fixes, patches, and other technical solutions for a variety of technologies, such as Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, Ceph, Juju, and MAAS.
Represent the company's values in customer interactions, ensuring the best possible experience.
Set clear expectations and manage communication with senior management, engineering teams, and external stakeholders.
Foster a collaborative engineering culture, aligning with company values.
Promote modern software development practices within your team.
Collaborate across departments to ensure successful project delivery.
Work remotely, with occasional global travel (up to 10%) for events and team meet-ups.
What We're Looking For:
Professional software delivery experience in languages like C, C++, Go, or Python.
Strong passion for software development and continuous learning.
Proven leadership experience, with the ability to organize and prioritize complex problem resolution and bug fixes.
Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
Experience using debugging tools such as gdb, crash, or similar tools.
Commitment to writing maintainable, high-quality code and employing solid testing practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Experience with Linux, especially Ubuntu, is preferred.
Familiarity with Open Source software and business models.
Prior experience managing people in a support or engineering role is a plus.
