AECI 1 Middle School is a brand-new educational institution opening in September 2025, dedicated to fostering a community of academic excellence, innovation, and personal growth. Our mission is to provide a supportive and challenging learning environment that prepares students to explore the skills, knowledge, and practical experiences leading to college and a career focused in the computer sciences and innovation industry.

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Middle School Assistant Principal who is committed to fostering academic and social-emotional excellence. The ideal candidate will be data-driven, utilizing student performance data to inform instructional decisions and continuously improve outcomes. This individual will be dedicated to creating and implementing a rigorous, engaging curriculum that meets the diverse needs of all learners. We seek a leader who is experienced in coaching and developing teachers , guiding them through professional development opportunities, and helping them refine their practice to ensure student success. Additionally, the ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and sustaining a positive school culture , ensuring that both students and staff feel supported, valued, and motivated. A commitment to the implementation of systems and structures that promote both academic achievement and social-emotional well-being is essential for success in this role.

The AECI 1 Middle School Assistant Principal is expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities

• Assist the principal in performing all duties and functions of running an effective school
• Supervise, develop and support academic staff
• Function in the role of a lead administrator in the absence of the principal
• Work with all teachers on the development of unit and lesson plans. Support teachers in the delivery of instruction

• Organize and lead team meetings to share best practices, review alignment of lesson plans with common core standards, create summative assessments to determine levels of student progress, review student data and develop action plans for higher student outcomes
• Collaborates with content teams to plan and execute curriculum and instruction that fosters student growth, creativity, and agency using culturally relevant materials and pedagogy
• Assist with the overall management of school operations with a focus on school/community relations
• Monitor and review Teachers, Cooperating Teachers and other support personnel in their role and function related to instruction, student behavior, and school management
• Perform Formal and Informal teacher observations using the Danielson Framework for Teaching
• Provide meaningful feedback and next steps to teachers based on classroom observations and student data
• Assist in recruiting and interviewing new staff when necessary
• Monitor and assess the instructional and social progress of students and make recommendations for change as appropriate
• Step in to teach classes as needed, ensuring continuity of instruction and supporting teachers during absences or high-demand periods.
• Supervise the health and safety of students and staff
• Monitor the collection and maintenance of student records
• Assist in management of all after-school activities and programs
• Facilitate effective communication with parents and community
• Assist with the collaborative efforts with the school’s Parent Association
• Network with community-based organizations and educational groups to acquire services for the school and develop effective relationships
• Other such duties determined to be appropriate for the successful operation of the school
• Spanish-speaking candidates desired, but not required

Hours and Benefits

• The Assistant Principal schedule is from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The AP will be available to arrive earlier or stay later if the situation warrants
• The Assistant Principal will receive a competitive benefits package.

Requirements

• Must have NYS certification in SAS, SBL, SDA or SDL by July 1, 2025

• Must have a thorough knowledge of middle school systems and structures including but not limited to NYS Testing Grades 6-8, CCLS, NGSS, Regents exam content, NYS requirements for graduation and ESSA accountability
• Minimum of 5 years full-time teaching experience with effective ratings
• Minimum of 2-3 years as an assistant principal in a middle school position preferred but not required
