Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Environmental Safety Manager to oversee and manage the environmental health and safety aspects of FLETC facilities. This role requires recent experience in Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and facilities management, with a strong background in project management and supervisory roles. Experience in Federal contract management, facility operations, and safety compliance is critical. Experience in adult education resident facilities, facility maintenance, food services, housekeeping, and human resources is highly preferred, especially within facilities similar in size and service mix to the FLETC Complex.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure the safety of the facility, including compliance with all applicable health, environmental, and safety regulations. Ensure that safety standards are followed in all aspects of facility operations, including maintenance, food services, and housekeeping.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental and safety risks. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as any contractual requirements related to safety and environmental standards.
  • Supervise and lead a team of environmental safety professionals, coordinating safety initiatives and ensuring that safety measures are integrated into all facility operations. Provide oversight in O&M and facility projects to ensure that they meet safety and environmental standards.
  • Oversee environmental safety compliance within the context of federal contracts. Ensure that all work performed aligns with contractual requirements, regulations, and expectations.
  • Develop and implement safety training programs for all facility staff, ensuring they are knowledgeable about environmental safety procedures, equipment, and regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of the facilities to ensure safety standards are being met. Prepare and submit detailed reports on environmental safety, including any safety violations, corrective actions, and improvements.
  • Work closely with other facility management teams (including food services, housekeeping, human resources) to ensure that safety protocols are being followed across all areas. Maintain effective communication with all levels of staff and management regarding environmental safety practices.
  • Use basic computer skills to input safety data into the system, track safety incidents, and generate reports as needed. Prepare written correspondence regarding environmental safety issues and updates.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Background and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree with five (5) years of recent experience in O&M/Facilities management, including at least five (5) years in a project management or supervisory role.
  • Experience in federal contract management, including supervision of facility operations.
  • Preferred experience in managing environmental safety in facilities that include adult education resident facilities, food services, housekeeping, and human resources.
  • Experience working in facilities similar in size and service mix to the FLETC Complex.
  • Strong project management skills with a focus on safety compliance, risk management, and environmental health.
  • Ability to supervise and lead teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including the ability to input data into systems, generate reports, and manage safety-related documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate safety information effectively to staff, management, and contractors.


Physical Demands

  • Sitting/Standing: This role requires the ability to be on your feet moving around for most of the day interacting with staff, contractor representatives, stakeholders and other executive level management. This role may require sitting at times to do administrative/office work.
  • Walking: This role will require you to walk throughout the building and other work sites or buildings.
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: This role may require occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and ladder climbing to inspect all aspects of facilities or projects.
  • Using Hands/Fingers: This role constantly operates technological office equipment such as laptop, mouse, keyboard, computer monitors, telephones, and scanners, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Talking/Hearing: This role requires constant communication with others in the organization to exchange information, review information, and make decisions about information.
  • Seeing: This role requires the ability to see, view, and distinguish all aspects of the facilities to ensure quality control.
  • Carrying/Lifting: This role requires the ability to lift up to 30lbs to transport technological office equipment, safety equipment, and other needed project items to and from various workspaces.
