Purpose:

  • Contributes to the overall success of the Latin America Investment Banking Division globally, utilizing industry experience to conduct critical technical review of companies and present findings in a concise and professional manner internally or externally to clients. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
  • Focuses on preparing and presenting financial analyses including, but not limited to, preparing client presentations, financial models and conducting research on companies, industries and geographies. With experience, takes on increased responsibilities including executing transactions and participating in business development with the guidance of senior group members.
  • On any given project, Associates will interact with other departments of the firm and support in the execution of capital markets and corporate lending transactions as part of M&A situations.

 

Position Highlights: 

  • Champions a client centric focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge;
  • Evaluates and analyzes the financial needs of corporate clients, including the development of financial models;
  • Responsible for developing detailed marketing materials for client pitches and presentations across a variety of industries and in a timely manner. This is achieved by compiling information from multiple sources including FactSet, Bloomberg, Equity Research publications, and Company sources for qualitative and quantitative slides; 
  • Performs financial and qualitative analysis of companies and industries, including the development of valuation models, pro-forma financial statements, comparable company analysis, etc.;
  • Participates in all stages of transaction execution, from the pitch phase through closing; 
  • Applies product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives;
  • Provides assistance to senior team members as well as guidance to junior team members, including the review and assessment of deliverables before submitting to senior team members;
  • Coordinates with product and industry partners at Scotiabank in the preparation of integrated materials that provide a comprehensive solution to our clients;
  • Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures, as well as in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring adherence to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk; and
  • Contributes and fosters a high performance and inclusive work environment. 

     

What You’ll Do 

 

  • Assists in the advisory to clients on both internal and cross-border M&A situations when a transaction either originates in or targets a company or assets located in Latin America 
  • Assists the capital markets team on initial public offerings and follow-on equity offerings at local stock exchanges in Latin America, NYSE, Nasdaq or TSX
  • Active participation in multiple projects simultaneously, while managing and mentoring junior analysts
  • Delivers the full capability of Scotiabank by cooperating with in-country Investment Banking teams, Corporate and Investment Banking industry teams, and product teams (including DCM, PIF, GLS)


What You’ll Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent qualification, and have an excellent academic and professional record
  • Considered an asset to have completed Masters-level/MBA education 
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry experience, ideally in Investment Banking, Private Equity or equivalent business functions
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory; experience building three-way statement operating financial models and valuation modules
  • Significant experience using advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint functionalities
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with comfort / confidence in presenting analysis to the C-Suite or equivalent senior members
  • Fluent Portuguese and/or Spanish speaker preferred
  • FINRA Series 79 and Series 63 licensed
